DIY Holiday Gifts for Cats

The holiday season is in full swing! Your feline friend may not know much about the holidays, but she will be paying close attention as you start checking things off your to-do list. Fluffy definitely deserves a special something! If you are trying to save money, or just enjoy crafts, why not make your kitty’s gifts? Below, a Cameron Park, CA vet lists some great homemade presents for cats.

Catnip Toys

Catnip is a purrfect gift for Fluffy! You can grow your own catnip, and give your kitty a small live plant. Or, to make catnip a toy, cut a pretty fabric into two matching pieces. You can shape them like a mouse or bird, or just make a square. Sew the sides together, leaving just one small spot open. Stuff it with catnip, and close up the opening. Voila! Instant happy cat.

Cat Tower

Cat towers are great for our feline pals. They offer Fluffy a convenient nail-care station, and also give your furball a great vantage point, jungle gym, and yet another napping spot. Upcycle an old stepladder by adding planks to the boards to widen them out. Then, wrap the whole thing in sisal rope or carpet.

Pet Tent

You can make Fluffy a cute little pet tent in just a few minutes, using a wire hangar, an old tee shirt, and some Velcro. This is great gift for scaredy-cats!

Cat Grass Mat

Upcycle an old litterbox by turning it into a planter for a living mat of cat grass for Fluffy to nap on. You’ll need to plant the seeds a few weeks before the holiday, though, to give it time to grow.

Window Seat

Birdwatching ranks pretty high on Fluffy’s list of favorite activities. Make your kitty a comfy window seat, so she can relax and watch local wildlife. All you need to do is use a smooth board to widen out your windowsill. You can also attach a comfy pet bed, using Velcro.

Box Castle

As you may have noticed, our feline friends absolutely love boxes! Fluffy will likely be thrilled to find herself with some empty boxes after everyone has finished opening their presents. She may also really enjoy a box castle. (Tip: this is a great project for kids!)
