Remembering a Beloved Pet

September 9th is Pet Memorial Day. Losing a beloved furred or feathered friend can be absolutely devastating. In fact, many people grieve just as much for pets as they do for people. Unfortunately, our animal companions have shorter lifespans than we do, so pet parents often to have to say goodbye all too soon. However, there are some beautiful ways to keep a pet’s memory alive. A Cameron Park, CA vet lists some of them below.

Memorial Gardens

One lovely way to honor a cherished pet is to plant a garden, flower, or tree in their memory. Paint your pet’s name and perhaps a few paw prints on a flat stone or a plant pot for a pretty, decorative touch.

Digital Photo Frame

Digital photo frames are a great way to honor a pet’s memory. They also don’t take up much space. Upload some of your favorite photos, and you’ll have a wonderful memorial to your furry friend.

Collage

If you prefer a more old-school approach, you can make a collage from some of your favorite pictures of your furry pal.

Scrapbook

Scrapbooking has come a long way in recent years. You can get some absolutely beautiful scrapbook kits, including some made just for pets. You can add your furry buddy’s records, as well as photographs, written memories, and some mementos, like a collar or toy.

Art

Hire a local artist to turn one of your favorite photos of your pet into a portrait. You’ll get a beautiful keepsake and help support local art!

Pottery

Look for a local pottery-painting place, and go there for a relaxing afternoon. Paint a jug, vase, cup, or bowl in memory of your pet.

Writing

Writing is a wonderful way to deal with grief or sorrow. You can do an obituary for your furry buddy if you like. Or, honor them with a poem, essay, or short story.

Donations

Many animal shelters and charities are filled with sweet pets who need good homes. Consider donating time, goods, or money to an animal welfare society in your beloved pet’s name. This can be a very rewarding and fulfilling gesture, as you’ll be helping animals in need.

If you’ve recently lost a beloved animal friend, please accept our condolences. We know how strong the bond between people and their pets can be. Please contact us, your Cameron Park, CA vet clinic, anytime.
