Immunotherapy

Immunotherapy

Immunotherapy is a new ground-breaking treatment option for dogs with cancer. Cancer cells normally grow and spread because the immune system fails to recognize them as abnormal, allowing them to continue to metastasize. K9-ACV is an immunotherapy vaccine used to help the dog’s immune system recognize the cancer cells as detrimental and attack them. If the dog has a tumor that can be removed, a vaccine can be created for that patient. First the tumor is removed and shipped to Medivet labs where the tumor and the cancerous cells are used to create a vaccine that alerts the body that those specific cancer cells are harmful. The personalized cancer vaccine is then administered to the dog, which “wakes-up” the immune system and helps it to recognize the dangerous cancer cells within the dog’s body. The immune system then naturally starts killing the cancer cells and potentially helps prevent them from spreading further.   The immunotherapy vaccine is created in the Medivet lab using your dog’s own specific cancer cells. Veterinary Healing Centers is then able to administer the vaccine. Three vaccines are created and administered 4 weeks apart.

The following are common cancers that are treatable with the immunotherapy cancer treatment vaccine in dogs:

  • Lymphoma
  • Mast cell tumor
  • Sarcoma
  • Osteosarcoma
  • Melanoma
  • Splenic or hepatic hemangiosarcoma
  • Skin tumors
  • Mammary tumors

We have been taking our Labrador to The Veterinary Healing Center for almost two years to treat her with eastern medicine/procedures for radiating pain from her neck to down her front leg. After about 6 acupuncture treatments and cervical formula powder supplements we saw a remarkable improvement! She went from limping and barely able to climb stairs to running around the yard and jumping into the pool! She was like a brand new dog! We continue with monthly maintenance treatments and we couldn’t be happier with the results! We now take our English Golden Retriever puppy there for checkups!

The staff is wonderful with my baby Gizmo. He can be a challenge at the vet but they take good care of him. I really feel like they care for the animals they see there. It means a lot to me to not feel like my cat is just a # but seen as a member of my family.

Brought PeeWee, who lost use of his back legs, in today for the first time and were treated with calm and care. I love the Eastern approach and we all have high hopes that acupuncture, laser treatment, and some herbs will fix the hitch in his giddyup and restore his youthful step again. Fingers crossed.

Dr. McKerney has been treating my cockapoo, Waldo, with accutpunture for a couple of months now due to a spinal injry that resulted in paralization in the hind area. Waldo can now walk, a little wobbly. When recommended to me we did not know if Waldo would ever be able to walk again. Dr, McKerney is worth our drive (50miles) and time. She was also very thorough in reviewing all of Waldo's medical records prior to seeing him. Waldo is never expereinces any anxiety about going - that says a lot!

I have been taking my elderly Bichon, Stasha, 15 yrs. old, to Vet Healing Center since October 2019. Dr. McKerney has been our vet who has been taking care of my Stasha's acupuncture. She has been very gentle in placing the needles and with the injection following the acupuncture. Stasha actually doesn't mind her placing the needles! Stasha acts like her younger sister who it 8!
Dr. Cahoon removed a mass by my Stasha's ear today. They also did bloodwork. Dr. Cahoon phoned me when the procedure was finished with an in depth review of what happened and his suggestions for further care. I appreciate his time being sure that I understood everything.
Everyone at the Vet Healing Center has been pleasant, caring and very helpful from making appointments to the acupuncture and mass removal and follow up. I definitely have recommended them to others!

Thank you for taking such good care of my little Stasha!! 🥰
