Alternative Cancer Treatments

Hearing your beloved cat or dog has cancer is devastating news. You may be wondering where to turn next. Is there any way to give you more happy years with your furry companion?

The good news is that YES, there is hope. Advancements in veterinary medicine have proven that there are effective therapies to treat – and sometimes even cure – pets with cancer. Our goal is to provide maximum quality of life with minimum side effects.

At Veterinary Healing Center of El Dorado Hills, we can also provide integrative therapy that includes acupuncture or herbal therapies to help support your pet’s immune system. In addition, these treatments can help control pain and maintain your pet’s overall quality of life.

You owe it to yourself and your furry best friend to find out the options. Call us for a cancer evaluation at (916) 933-6030. We’ll evaluate your pet’s situation, and go over potential treatment plans and costs, and come up with a solution that makes sense for your situation.

Alternative Cancer Therapies for Pets:

Intravenous (IV) Vitamin C Therapy involves the administration of Vitamin C directly into the bloodstream. Vitamin C at these high blood concentrations does not work as an anti-oxidant but instead acts as a pro-oxidant. When given intravenously, Vitamin C in the blood has been shown to generate the production of hydrogen peroxide that has the potential to directly kill cancer cells in the early stages. Normal cells have the ability to neutralize the effects of hydrogen peroxide via catalase, but cancer cells do not. This mechanism of action is similar to some conventional chemotherapies, but with a lower cost and less toxic side effects. To be effective, this therapy requires multiple injections administered over an extended time frame. For more specific information, please call our hospital.

Immunotherapy is one of the latest and safest ways to treat cancer in dogs. If the dog has a tumor that can be removed, a vaccine can be created for that patient. First, the tumor is removed and shipped to Medivet labs where the tumor and the cancerous cells are used to create a vaccine that alerts the body that those specific cancer cells are harmful. The personalized cancer vaccine is administered to the dog, which “wakes-up” the immune system and helps it to recognize the dangerous cancer cells within the dog’s body. The immune system then naturally starts killing the cancer cells and potentially helps prevent them from spreading further. The immunotherapy vaccine is created in the Medivet lab using your dog’s own specific cancer cells. Veterinary Healing Centers will then be able to administer the vaccine. We create three vaccines, which are given 4 weeks apart. Click here for more information!
